Joseph D. Kieffer joined Kegel, Tobin & Truce in 1988 and became a partner in 1991.  A year later he was elevated to managing partner of the Los Angeles office.  Mr. Kieffer, who practiced corporate law prior to joining KT&T,  primarily handles workers compensation defense before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board and represents a variety of clients such as Northrop Grumman, the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Clippers as well as large insurance companies such as AIG and The Travelers. 

Mr. Kieffer also specializes in Labor Code Section 132a discrimination claims and Serious & Willful Misconduct actions filed against employers. 

Mr. Kieffer continues to manage the Los Angeles office.

Experience: After graduating from the University of California at Santa Barbara with Honors, Mr. Kieffer went to Washington, D.C. and worked as a legislative assistant to Congressman Peter B. Freylinghuysen (NJ). He then joined the initial staff of Congressman William S. Cohen (ME), who was subsequently elected to the United States Senate and was later appointed Secretary of Defense by President Clinton in 1996.

Education: Mr. Kieffer received his Bachelor of Arts in history at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1971 and his law degree from American University in Washington, DC in 1976. He was elected to Law Review in 1975 and 1976.  While attending law school, he also clerked for Judge Lehman Aarons of the United States Tax Court.
